Welcome to Mr. Mc Carney's Third Grade Class!
Hello there! I am your teacher from Luton, England, and I am really excited to be teaching Third Grade once again at Transfiguration Catholic Church.
I am currently a teacher at the Atlanta International School, teaching two English classes of Third Graders. Indeed, I have now been teaching for seven years in the United States. I used to work in Fulton County (via The Visiting International Faculty), and taught for two years at Mountain Park Elementary School, and before that for two years at Sweet Apple Elementary School. Prior to that I taught for one year at St. Margaret of Scotland Infants Roman Catholic School, and eight years at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Junior School, both in Luton, Bedfordshire, England, which is my home town. I also led the children's choir (although I'm not a singer, but a percussionist) at Holy Ghost Church, Luton, which was my parish church. I also served on the Liturgy Committee there.
I attended De Montfort University and The Open University back in England. I live with my wife Mary and our two cats, Dixie and Daisy in Roswell. My wife is also a teacher at the Atlanta International School, as well as being a features writer for major magazine and newspapers such as The Times and The Irish Times as well as The Times Educational Supplement. She is also a features writer for Catholic publications such as The Universe. I enjoy reading biographies and political history, listening to music and playing drums. On the sporting front I used to play badminton as well play soccer on a regular basis, but have ‘retired’ now because my joints are getting a bit stiff! I was also a qualified soccer coach and referee.
As a drummer I have played in several bands since I was fourteen years old, playing many genres, particularly rock, country and Irish music. One of my biggest drumming heroes is Phil Collins. I am also the drummer at the Vigil Mass (5 p.m.) on a Saturday evening.
